ATALIAN Greater Midwest Region Presented with Spooner Million Dollar Club Award for Over-the-Top Savings in Safety and Risk Costs
What Aetna Building Maintenance, Inc. dba ATALIAN Global Services has done is pretty unprecedented.
In May, Valerie Morris, ATALIAN US Vice President of QHSE & Risk, was honored to receive Spooner Risk Control Services’ Million Dollar Club Award on behalf of ATALIAN’s Greater Midwest Region subsidiary, Aetna Building Maintenance, Inc.
Spooner, a third-party administrator (TPA) of safety- and risk-related programs, represents over 2,800 employers across Ohio and other Midwest states, monitoring and reporting on workers’ compensation and other safety issues and offering safety training and OSHA consulting services. ATALIAN’s Greater Midwest Region was one of 15 of Spooner’s 2,800+ clients presented with the Spooner Million Dollar Club Award – a mere 0.529% of their client base. To qualify, companies must have saved over $1,000,000 in safety and risk costs since 2013 (current experience period for the 2018 policy year). ATALIAN’s Aetna saved $1,136,681 over this time period.
Spooner’s President, Joe Spooner, stated, “This doesn’t happen by accident. This happens by communication, diligence, and continuous teamwork.… you guys are an awesome client to work with. Not everyone understands to the level that you do how to save over $1,000,000 in their workers’ compensation, but you do.”
Spooner further explained ATALIAN’s breakdown on savings this way:
- $7,223 from settlements of claims – This is truly a team effort between Pam Murray (Spooner Claims examiner), ATALIAN’s team, and ATALIAN’s outside counsel.
- $69,396 from handicap reimbursements – These come from Spooner’s internal handicap department combing through all lost time claims’ medical records and looking for pre-existing conditions and then taking the hearing to get percentages of the claims’ costs removed from ATALIAN’s liability.
- $248,264 from claims management savings – This is the true difference maker. Any TPA can put you in a program and save some money, but not every TPA/employer/outside counsel can accomplish this type of savings. ATALIAN’s team works so well and is so diligent with managing every claim throughout its entire life to make sure the costs are mitigated to the best case scenario.
- $811,799 from group retro refunds – This is from program participation. What goes into group retro refunds is Spooner’s and ATALIAN’s ability to have less claims costs than the Bureau of Workers Compensation is anticipating.
Kudos to Val and the entire QHSE & Risk team for a job well done!
